The musical contains two acts, one and two as well as the common intermission. The story opens up to the introduction of Prince Eric and his advisor Grimsby aboard a ship. At the same time, a concert is underway down under the sea at King Triton's kingdom. The performance is put on by King Triton's daughters, but unfortunately his youngest daughter, Ariel, is no where to be found. As she commonly does, the young mermaid has gone off exploring and completely forgot about the concert.

Meanwhile, Ursula, the evil sea witch, is planning revenge against her brother King Triton. His power has banished her from the palace, but she longs for the coveted crown and golden trident. In order to do so, Ursula must convince his youngest daughter to help her, without knowing her underlying plan.

Ursula gets her chance when she finds out Ariel has fallen in love with a human above land. In order to get her wish and be closer to stealing the crown, she grants Ariel human legs in return for her voice. Not being able to convey her feelings to Eric proves much harder than Ariel expected and now the sea witch is getting closer to her ultimate goal!
